Elementary School

Students in Grades 2 through 5 at The Columbus School engage in a variety of learning experiences that balance student-led inquiry with explicit instruction. Throughout the year, they continue to develop skills through the Approaches to Learning (ATLs) and build deep conceptual understandings, while growing as well-rounded individuals guided by the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.

Learning is structured through six transdisciplinary units of inquiry, aligned with recognized international standards: Common Core for language and mathematics, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for science, and AERO standards for social studies and sociales. English is the primary language of instruction in homeroom classes, with students also receiving one hour of daily Spanish instruction. Additionally, students participate in weekly specialist classes in Music, Art, Physical Education, and Life Skills.

The Columbus School is a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Program (PYP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that The Columbus School believes is important for our students.
