Early Years
CHARACTER COUNTS!
In Early Years, the focus is on teaching the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Through age-appropriate activities, storytelling, and role-playing, the program promotes social-emotional development and lays the foundation for positive behavior and ethical decision-making.
These skills prepare children for success in their relationships, academics, and community involvement.
Using tools like the Early Childhood Kit, the program celebrates children who exemplify these core values.
Elementary School
CHARACTER COUNTS!
In Elementary School, it promotes the six pillars of character—trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship—through dynamic lessons, discussions, and practical applications. The program engages parents through VIDA, allowing them to visit classrooms and explore the pillars with students.
As children grow, they become aware of the impact of their decisions. CHARACTER COUNTS! supports their development by encouraging ethical behavior, responsible decision-making, and conflict resolution, helping to build meaningful relationships and a strong sense of community responsibility.
Resources such as “Good Ideas” and “Today Counts” are used to reinforce these values.
Middle School
CHARACTER COUNTS!
In Middle School, it empowers students to face the challenges of adolescence by fostering critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and the development of the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Through interactive activities, counseling, self-reflection, and discussions on real-life situations, the program encourages students to reflect on their actions, understand consequences, and cultivate empathy. It also promotes leadership and community involvement, offering opportunities such as organizing fundraisers for communities in La Guajira, Colombia.
Students begin to understand the complexity of applying strong character, preparing them to become ethical leaders in their communities. Resources such as journals and Way to Go videos are used to support their development.
High School
CHARACTER COUNTS!
In high school, it prepares students for the challenges of adulthood by integrating the six pillars of character into their academic, social, and extracurricular experiences. The program focuses on ethical leadership, personal responsibility, and civic engagement through discussions, direct action, service, and peer mentoring.
Students participate in initiatives such as the Buddies program, which teaches younger students about peer pressure, and they reflect on complex ethical dilemmas. Activities like community service projects, Model United Nations, and the Global Issues Network allow students to make a tangible impact.
CHARACTER COUNTS! equips them to transition into adulthood as responsible, empathetic, and socially aware individuals, leading by example.
